Project Tour // Molina Kitchen

April 8, 2024

We just completed the kitchen remodel of one of our designer’s kitchens. Karyn Molina lives with her now husband Tony Molina in San Diego’s Mission Hills area. Tony had purchased the home prior to meeting Karyn in May of 2019. The home was originally a duplex and they have worked over the past couple of years to turn it into their dream home doing much of the remodel themselves. When it came to the kitchen however, she knew that she would need the help of her team and a contractor.

Karyn and Tony got engaged in February of 2022 and the wedding was set for April 2023. In true interior designer fashion, working with Jessica’s husband Kraig Nicolls, owner of Nicolls Construction, we raced to get the kitchen remodeled in between our other design projects, throwing a shower, a bachelorette party and through the holidays to get the kitchen done before the wedding. We reached the finish line the week before the wedding and were able to host friends and family from out of town in the gorgeous new space

They both love to entertain so having a large open concept kitchen was super important to them. Many custom details were included in this renovation, a custom tall cabinet to house coffee makers with retractable cabinet doors and a countertop to conceal the clutter and keep the counters clean. Tony wanted a bar area, so we made taller drawers to store wine and liquor bottles and a paneled beverage fridge by the dutch door.

The kitchen was once a typical galley style, closed off to the living room so we removed the wall and created a giant center island with two dishwashers. The exterior wall had a giant block window that was taking up prime real estate so we moved the front door over a bit so we could create a coffee and drink area. We mirrored this look on the opposite wall with the fridge and pantry.

Our design inspiration for the space was a blend of European style and modern conveniences. We paneled all the appliances to make the space look cohesive. We ran the gorgeous marble counters up behind the stove and did a shelf for decor and cooking supplies.
